Challenge:

The Ontario College of Art and Design University (OCAD) approached us with a project to create an inclusive and experiential app aimed at connecting artists of all disciplines—dancers, painters, singers, and more. The goal was to foster a sense of community among diverse artists, enabling them to share, collaborate, and connect. Initially, OCAD had 8 months to complete the concept and design with another team, but due to challenges in innovation design and competing deadlines, they reached out for additional support. The timeline was now compressed to two weeks to develop the concept, story, and app demo, which had to be completed in time for an important grant submission.

Approach:

My role in the project focused on research to support the design decisions for the app, and UX/UI content writing to ensure the user experience was seamless, intuitive, and engaging. We worked collaboratively to:

• Conducted user research to understand the needs of various artists and their preferred methods of collaboration.

• Developed a concept story that conveyed the app's value in connecting artists from different fields while maintaining an inclusive, user-friendly design.

• Focused on UX/UI content writing to ensure that the app’s language was accessible and relevant to a wide audience, from dancers to visual artists.

• Delivered the app demo along with the final design and concept, ensuring it was both functional and aesthetically appealing.

  
  

Results:

Despite the intense time constraints, our team successfully delivered the work on time, meeting the two-week deadline for the grant submission. The final app concept and demo were well-received, leading to OCAD being awarded a $150,000 grant to further develop the creator app. The app’s inclusive design and experiential elements positioned it as a unique solution for fostering creative collaboration across multiple artistic disciplines.
