As AI becomes an increasingly common way for patients to search for healthcare information, organizations face a new communications challenge. AI systems do not simply retrieve websites; they interpret information, associate physicians with clinics, and decide which organizations become visible in generated answers.

Working with a physician led fertility clinic in the Greater Toronto Area, I recognized an emerging opportunity beyond traditional marketing. The challenge was no longer only building a trusted digital presence, but understanding how that presence might influence AI generated healthcare recommendations.

This required looking beyond SEO and social media to evaluate physician, clinic, specialty, and geographic entity representation across leading AI platforms.

From Digital Presence to AI Visibility

Approach: I developed and led a multi phase digital communications strategy that evolved beyond traditional content marketing into exploratory AI visibility research. The work included: • physician and clinic brand strategy • social media and thought leadership • digital presence and reputation development • AI visibility benchmarking across six major AI platforms • a healthcare specific evaluation framework measuring visibility, accuracy, citation quality, usefulness, and safety • targeted entity clarification to strengthen physician, clinic, specialty, and geographic consistency • comparative analysis and follow up monitoring The project ultimately became an exploratory case study examining how AI systems represent healthcare organizations and physicians within Canadian healthcare. Results: Over the course of the project: • Developed a 30 question AI visibility audit across six leading AI platforms. • Identified meaningful differences in how AI systems recognize physicians, clinics, locations, and specialties. • Developed an evidence informed framework to evaluate AI generated healthcare answers using visibility, accuracy, citation quality, usefulness, and safety. • Observed that physician recognition, clinic recognition, and AI generated visibility behave differently across platforms. • Identified recurring opportunities to strengthen entity clarity and digital consistency within healthcare communications. • Produced a comprehensive exploratory case study examining AI visibility, healthcare communications, and emerging governance considerations. • Established a repeatable methodology for evaluating AI generated healthcare representation that can inform future healthcare communications strategy.
